A group of interdisciplinary scientists at the forefront of microbiome research attended the event, including our very own Dr. Daniel Segrè, professor of Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering and Biology, joined by one of our Ph.D. candidates Allyson Byrd, who studies the human microbiome at the National Institutes of Health, as part of our Bioinformatics BU-NIH graduate partnership program.

On May 13th the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy hosted an event on microbiomes the diverse communities of microbes that live on and in people, plants, soil, oceans, and the atmosphere and announce steps to advance the scientific understanding of microbiome behavior by launching a National Microbiome Initiative.
